Underbases & Flashing, Positives & Screen Setups: Screen Printing involves the usage of color separated designs on mesh frames. Ink is passed through an affixed stencil (screen) with the use of a rubber squeegee. To get the design in the screen, a quality black and white positive is made of each design color. With light exposure to a photosensitive screen, each image is burned into place. Every color requires a separate screen. Each screen setup is $35.
Dark shirts require an additional white underbase screen. The printed underbase is then temporarily flashed with a heat source. All visible highlight colors, including a highlight white (if white is in the logo), are then printed upon the underbase for a vivid and opaque print. Without an underbase, colors would be semi-transparent and dingy. Below is an example of the same image printed with the same color ink with an underbase (top) and without an underbase (bottom). Below are the positives used to properly print
this 3 color design.
